Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May.... Enjoy our little compilation of our five fantastic members at the championships:
Qualifying for Hartpury
Over the winter, BKRC's Dressage Series included qualification for the South West Championships held at Hartpury. Held in May each year, the two day championships hosts Show Jumping on the Saturday (with classes from 60/65cm to 1m/1.05m), and then Intro through to Elementary Dressage on the Sunday.
Qualifiers are held at a variety of venues throughout Somerset, Dorset and Gloucestershire, with places going to combinations placed 1-3rd double clear in show jumping and 1st & 2nd in Dressage with a score of over 64%.
So we were delighted to hear that five of our BKRC members had qualified for both days of the championships, spanning ALL dressage classes as follows:
Kelly and Freddie: 80/85cm Show jumping and Novice
Jayne and BamBam: Intro and Prelim
Rhea and Ron: Prelim and Novice
Kaye and Hennesy: Novice and Elementary
Anna and Nanook: Elementary
Saturday 20 May - Show Jumping Day
Saturday saw 35 competitors take on the 80/85cm class with 25 getting through to the jump of round. Kelly and Fred did a lovely double clear, originally going in to 6th but finally coming 11th out of 35 competitors (and very competitive competitors at that!!) knocked just one place outside of the rosettes with the last few to go. Frustratingly close guys. Nevermind! Great double clear and lovely pictures!
Sunday 21 May - Dressage Day - 5 members, 4 levels - bring it on!
Sunday's dressage championships was a busy day of dressage starting at 9am and finishing at 6.30pm! With a fully dressed arena including flags, pot plants, flower arrangements, music, two judges and no place to hide, all of our riders did themselves proud, all producing good tests.
Jayne Harman and Bam Bam
Jayne and BamBam were rewarded for their crazy early start (with 9.30 and 10am dressage times) riding beautiful tests to score 65.330% for 3rd in Intro B and 67.590% for 5th in Prelim 17. Getting not just rossi's but two lovely goodie bags of prizes! Well done!
Rhea Kellow and Arkansas B
Having suffered an injury (a broken finger) in the run up to Hartpury Rhea opted to ride just the Prelim despite having qualified for both classes. They produced a very smart test scoring 63.710% and just outside the placings. Also getting some gorgeous pics!
Kelly Logan and Freddie of the Fern
The Novice started late afternoon. Kelly and Fred were on after the break at 3.25pm, doing only their 4th ever Novice test, and managed to finish in 11th again (out of 20 competitors) scoring 64.820% having done a smart little test, with a couple of costly mistakes - namely a spook mid movement early on - which was genuine and a loss of balance after the medium canter, causing a momentary break in the collection to working canter. A really good start at this level though. Keep it up!
Kaye Popham and Whatever Floats Your Boat
Team regulars, Kaye and Hennesy were almost the very last Novice competitor to go and rode a beautiful test - with some incredible halt work and some very tidy riding - to score 67.320% and secure 5th place and a goodie bag!
Both Kaye and Kelly doing really well in a very competitive class where the top score was only a few marks away on 69.540%
Anna James and Nanook Bear
Finally, at 5.30pm it was time to watch a very chilled Anna and Nanook ride their first test of the day (Elementary 40) AND WIN on 65.970%! Before heading over to the main championship arena to watch Anna and Kaye taking on Elementary 59 (which looked incredibly involved!) to score a very creditable 61.560% and 63.360% respectively.
Giving Kaye 4th place to add to her 5th place and another goodie bag of prizes, and Anna 5th place to add to her Win - and of course another goodie bag! Very well done Anna and Nanook!
Well done ladies! We couldn't be more proud of you all. You all absolutely smashed it this weekend!
